I try and avoid Google. For many years I've used DuckDuckGo, which prioritises privacy, but more recently it's become very hard to get good results.
There is a small independent one-man search engine called Marginalia that tends to be good at finding more niche, smaller site.
I've also heard good things about Kagi search (it's paid), but I've not tried it yet.
